The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has successfully contained a fire outbreak at Leventis Plaza in Abuja, preventing major damage to the popular commercial complex and nearby facilities.
The fire, which occurred on the first floor of the plaza, affected a tailoring workshop and is suspected to have been caused by an electrical surge. According to the FFS, the swift response of its firefighters ensured that the blaze did not spread to other parts of the building or adjacent structures, including Grand Square, The Palm Hotels and Frazier’s Suites.
A statement from the Service said the FFS Control Room received a distress call and immediately deployed its Special Unit firefighters from the National Headquarters. The team, led by Station Fire Officer (SF) Adoko, arrived at the scene within five minutes and commenced firefighting operations.
Firefighters successfully contained the fire and carried out salvage and overhaul operations, followed by a comprehensive inspection of the affected area. As a result of the timely intervention, property valued at about ₦900 million was saved from an estimated ₦1 billion worth of assets at risk before the incident.
The Federal Fire Service reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the country and urged members of the public to take precautions, particularly with electrical installations, to prevent similar emergencies.
The FFS reminded citizens of its emergency contact number, 08032003557, and the national emergency line, 112.
