I recently came across a live session where Shatta Wale joined a Stonebwoy fan’s space. During the conversation, one of the fans openly disrespected him, and what stood out most was Shatta Wale’s unusually calm and slow response.

Honestly, I do not entirely blame the fan for the disrespect. The greater responsibility lies with Shatta Wale himself. When an artist of his stature places himself in such spaces, he indirectly lowers the standard of engagement expected around his brand.

Shatta Wale is not just a big name in Ghana; he is one of Africa’s most influential artists. In terms of international collaborations and global recognition, he stands in a league of his own. Even many Nigerian artists—who dominate the continental conversation—do not match the breadth of his global reach in dancehall.

For that reason alone, it is troubling to see him engaging in lives where participants struggle to afford airtime, yet feel emboldened to insult a legend. Greatness demands boundaries, and icons must be selective about the platforms they give their presence.

I also watched Shatta Wale explain issues surrounding the Stonebwoy matter, and once again, it felt unnecessary. He is simply too big to be caught in narratives that no longer serve his growth or legacy.

Beyond music, Shatta Wale’s impact on the youth is undeniable. From launching Shaxi, which created opportunities in the transport sector, to opening a phone company that employs young people, his influence extends far beyond entertainment. These are the actions of a visionary, not someone who should be dragged into fan-driven online confrontations.

Shatta Wale has already proven his greatness. The next step is protecting it—by choosing silence over reaction, elevation over explanation, and legacy over momentary engagement.
