Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has said the state did not experience the recent electricity shortage that affected several parts of Nigeria, noting that Abia was able to sustain power supply because it has control over key electricity assets.
The governor explained that a significant part of the state’s power infrastructure is under Abia’s authority, which helped it remain stable while other areas struggled with outages.
“I’m sure you are all aware of the recent power shortage, but Abia State was not affected because a whole part of our power asset is within our authority. This shows that we are making real progress,” Otti said.
He also disclosed that the state is exploring new methods of boosting energy generation, including plans to turn organic waste into electricity.
According to Otti, waste management in Abia will no longer be limited to disposal alone, as the government intends to use organic waste as a source of sustainable power.
“All the organic waste we are disposing of will be converted into energy to power many places,” he added.
