His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, alongside former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, visited the residence of former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, following a reported arrest attempt by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to a media post by Honourable Distinguished Senator Lawal Adamu Usman on Thursday, 12 February 2026, the visit was aimed at showing support and solidarity with the former governor during a tense period.
The situation escalated earlier at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, when security personnel reportedly attempted to arrest El-Rufai
Eyewitnesses said the operatives approached him at the airport, but some Nigerians present insisted that he should not be taken into custody without a formal invitation.
They reportedly told the officers that proper legal procedures must be followed before any arrest could occur
The visit by Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi highlighted political support for El-Rufai and drew attention to the need for adherence to due process in high-profile cases.
