According to a report by Vanguard, on Wednesday February 11, 2026, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has criticized the governing style of President Bola Tinubu, stating that the current administration’s approach to public service conflicts with his own understanding of government responsibility.
El-Rufai explained that he sees public service as a duty to deliver results and improve the lives of citizens, he said the purpose of government is to perform effectively, not to enrich individuals.
He argued that public office should never be used as a tool for personal gain and condemned corruption, favoritism, and the appointment of friends or family members over qualified individuals.
He suggested that these practices undermine the credibility and effectiveness of government, he said that leaders should prioritize service to the public above personal or group interests.
El-Rufai’s comments come amid ongoing debates about governance and accountability in Nigeria, he stated that integrity and fairness are essential values for anyone in public office.
He implied that these principles guided his own career in government and suggested that political leaders should focus on competence, transparency, and delivering tangible benefits to citizens.
El-Rufai draw attention to the differences in philosophy between himself and the Tinubu administration and suggested that a government that prioritizes wealth and personal networks over performance cannot meet the expectations of the people.
“I am in government for delivery, for results and performance. Public service is not about making money for yourself, it’s not about stealing, it’s not about appointing your cronies or your tribesmen,” he said.
