Rivers Governor describes late lawmaker Barinada Mpigi as consummate politician and leading light, says his death comes at a critical time.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has expressed deep sadness over the death of Senator Barinada Mpigi, who represented Rivers South East Senatorial District.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, the governor described Mpigi as a brother, a consummate politician and one of the leading lights in Rivers State.
Fubara said the senator’s death came at a critical time when his services were still needed by the people of the state.
“He died at a time when his wealth of experience and commitment to public service were still required for the development of Rivers State,” the governor said, praying God to grant the deceased eternal rest.
The governor commiserated with Mpigi’s immediate family, the people of Rivers South East Senatorial District and members of the Senate, urging them to take solace in the fact that he lived a fulfilled life and made meaningful contributions to society.
Senator Mpigi died at the age of 64. Until his death, he was the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works.
During the 9th Assembly, he also served as chairman of a joint Senate Committee set up to investigate crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region.
