The Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, has pledged the support of the Benin Palace for ongoing military operations aimed at strengthening security in Edo State.
The monarch gave the assurance when the Commander of the 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, paid him a courtesy visit at the Royal Palace in Benin City on March 4, 2026.
During the visit, Oba Ewuare II commended the Brigade Commander and officers of the Nigerian Army for their efforts in protecting law-abiding citizens across the state. He also offered prayers for the continued safety and success of troops deployed in security operations.
The monarch acknowledged the military’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property in Edo State and suggested that some of the operations conducted within the Benin Kingdom could be given codenames in the Benin language.
Earlier, Brigadier General Balogun said the visit formed part of his engagements since assuming command of the 4 Brigade a few months ago. According to him, the purpose of the visit was to formally introduce himself to the monarch and seek royal blessings and prayers for the brigade’s activities in the state.
He noted that the support and cooperation of the Benin throne would further strengthen the brigade’s efforts in maintaining peace and security. The Brigade Commander also reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s zero-tolerance stance against all forms of insecurity and its readiness to respond decisively to emerging threats.
The visit concluded with a special prayer and blessing session by the Oba for the Brigade Commander and the troops as they continue to discharge their constitutional duties.
