Africa Magic announces 12th AMVCA for May 9, with Joke Silva as head judge and nominations airing March 29.
The organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards have confirmed that the 12th edition will hold on May 9, 2026, with veteran actress Joke Silva appointed as Head Judge for the ceremony.
The announcement was made by Africa Magic on March 26 during a press conference at the MultiChoice Studio in Ilupeju, Lagos, where details about the upcoming awards, nomination date, and new categories were revealed.
The AMVCA, which began in 2013, has grown into one of Africa’s biggest entertainment events, recognising excellence in film and television while also contributing significantly to job creation across various sectors in the industry.
For the 2026 edition, organisers introduced new Indigenous Language categories, including Best Indigenous Language, North Africa and Best Indigenous Language, Central Africa, in a move aimed at expanding representation across the continent.
The nominations for this year’s awards are scheduled to be announced on March 29 and will be broadcast live on Africa Magic channels.
In total, 32 award categories will be featured, with 18 decided by a jury, 11 open to public voting, and three special awards, including Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer honours.
Speaking at the event, Executive Head of Content and Channels at MultiChoice West Africa, Atinuke Babatunde, highlighted the broader vision behind this year’s ceremony.
“Beyond the lights, the red carpet, and the applause, there is a deeper story, one of craftsmanship. The writers, the directors, the editors, the designers, the technicians, the many hands and minds that shape the stories we love. This year, we are being as intentional as we’ve always been about recognising that ecosystem of excellence,” she said.
The 12th edition will be led by headline sponsor Don Julio, alongside other supporting brands including Guinness, MTN, Indomie, Quickteller, Verve, and Lush Hair.
The live nomination show will be hosted by actor Chiemezie Imo, setting the stage for what organisers say will be another major celebration of African storytelling.
