Inside Alege’s Five-Book Breakthrough: Diplomacy, Power, and the Human Story

A major intellectual and literary gathering is set to take centre stage in Nigeria’s capital as Ambassador Shina Fatai Alege prepares to launch five new books in a single landmark event.

The grand launch, scheduled for Wednesday, May 13, 2026, will hold at 11:00 a.m. at the Merit House Auditorium, Maitama, Abuja.

The event is expected to attract a distinguished audience comprising policymakers, diplomats, academics, and members of the literary community.

The five books, which span diplomacy, leadership, philosophy, and fiction, reflect Ambassador Alege’s broad intellectual range and deep engagement with global and African issues.

Leading the collection is “The Sirens and the Flag: A Nigerian Ambassador’s Journal from the War in Ukraine,” a gripping diplomatic memoir that documents crisis leadership during wartime.

The book, with a foreword by Ibrahim Gambari, offers a personal account of duty and resilience in the face of conflict.

Another notable work, “Insecurity and Regional Leadership in Africa: Nigeria’s Aspiratory Hegemony under Multiplex Threats,” provides a scholarly examination of Africa’s security landscape.

Featuring a foreword by Tunde Adeniran, the book introduces the concept of “aspiratory hegemony,” redefining leadership as responsibility sustained under pressure.

The author also ventures into fiction with three novels. “The Expiry Date of Power: How Abu-Superior Learned Too Late” explores the transient nature of political influence, while “The Last Ride: Five Stops Before Goodbye” offers a reflective narrative on life, memory, and legacy.

In “When the House Was Not on Fire,” Alege presents a philosophical African story that examines friendship, truth, and the test of adversity.

According to the organisers, the collection represents a rare fusion of academic scholarship and creative storytelling, bridging policy discourse with human experience and cultural reflection.

They noted that the event goes beyond a traditional book launch, describing it as a celebration of African thought leadership and a contribution to global conversations on governance, security, and human values.

Ambassador Alege, a seasoned diplomat and scholar, is widely regarded for his contributions to international relations and policy discourse. His latest works further establish him as a unique voice combining intellectual depth with cultural authenticity.

The launch will feature prominent personalities from government, academia, and the diplomatic corps, underscoring its significance within Nigeria’s intellectual and cultural landscape.
