*Senate summons security chiefs over kidnappings, killings by bandits, others
*Laments various kidnappings in FCT, other parts of Nigeria

Disturbed by all forms of insecurity in the country, especially kidnappings for ransom and killings by bandits, the Senate has summoned the security chiefs for explanation over their plans and efforts at securing the lives and properties of the people.
The Red Chamber which resumed plenary on Tuesday after the Christmas and New Year break, also resolved to have an audience with President Bola Tinubu for discussions on the outcome of its meeting with the security chiefs.
Both meetings, according to the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, would hold next week due to the importance attached to them.
These resolutions were sequel to a motion adopted under urgent matters of national importance sponsored by all the 109 lawmakers after being presented by the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC Ekiti Central) after about two hours of closed doors executive session.
The Senate, according to Bamidele is inviting the security chiefs for inquisitive session over the rising insecurity in the country, especially the kidnappings for ransom, killings in Mangu, Bokkos, and Barkin Ladi communities in Plateau State and in Agata and Logo Local Government Areas of Benue State, other parts of the country by bandits, the bomb explosion in Bodija, Ibadan and other forms of insecurity.
It equally lamented the various kidnappings in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT and other parts of the country “where victims have been killed after collecting ransom as well as the recent killings of monarchs and others, and the abduction of primary school pupils in Ekiti State, which had further aggravated the level of insecurity in the country.”
“The Senate notes with sadness the rising spate of killings, kidnappings, banditry, and other criminal activities in the nation,” the Red Chamber added.
In his remarks, the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio said the meeting with the security chiefs and the President would hold next week with a view to resolving the insecurity that is plaguing the country.
“After the interactive session with the security chiefs, which we agreed that it should be next week, we would also fix a time to discuss the outcome with Mr President.
“We have a responsibility to collaborate with the executive and contribute our ideas to ensure that our constituents and we, including our children, can sleep with their two eyes closed.
“Security is everybody’s business, and without security, we cannot make progress.
“We are very determined to make laws and pass resolutions aimed at ensuring rapid progress of the country and the immediate improvement of the Nigerian economy.
“This will not be possible without a secured nation. We will take this up with Mr. President after interaction with security chiefs,” Akpabio stressed.
