Labour Strike: Pro-Tinubu group lauds SGF, Akume over prompt intervention

A pro-Tinubu group operating under the aegis of Patriotic Movement for Asiwaju/ Shettima 2023 has commended the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume over his promptness that led to the resolution of impasse involving the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, the Trade Union Congress, TUC and the Federal Government of Nigeria

National Coordinator of the movement, Dr Rabia Yasai Hassan Cengiz, gave her commendation after both unions called off the strike in Abuja, stating that the intervention of the SGF in settling the minimum wage crisis with the workers has paid off.

In a statement which was made available to journalists on Wednesday, Dr Rabia said, she spoke with the SGF to express her concerns, but was assured that the impasse was over as they had a fruitful meeting with the unions alongside other stakeholders.

The statement said: “She told me on our phone call conversation that Akume’s intervention has brought a good understanding between the labor union and the federal government of Nigeria at this crucial time.

“I’m happy to disclose that the recent withdrawal from the strike by the NLC/TUC has proven that the SGF is a bridge builder who is always ready to promote peace and unity between the federal government and the labor to protect the good image of Tinubu administration at all levels”.

“The entire landscape is agog with the intervention of SGF that led to the suspension of the strike.”

The National leader urged the union to sheathe their swords, cooperate with President Bola Tinubu administration as he strives to reposition the Nation for greater productivity, insisting that the “Renewed Hope Agenda”, is a scheme that would cater for the welfare of Nigerians.

In similar vein, the statement quoted the Chairman, Board of Trustees, BoT of the group, Dr Onwubuya Abrahams Breakforth to have commended George Akume for showing capacity in a series of meetings with the organized Labour that brought about normalcy.

Dr. Breakforth said, the strike action would have untold hardship, if there was no thoughtful initiative of the SGF that eventually led to the call-off strike by the union leaders, hence, the group was saluting him for courage and bold steps taken to bring the warring parties to a negotiation table.

“We congratulate Senator Dr George Akume. This is a thoughtful initiative by our National Leader. The Board of Trustees of PMAS salute the SGF on the occasion of successfully resolving the Nationwide Labour Strike that almost crippled our economy due to the inability of the National assembly Leadership to completely find a solution.”
