Guardiola should have been sacked for failing to win Champions League

Mauricio Pochettino has said Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola, should have been sacked “seven or eight times” for failing to win the Champions League.

Pochettino was fired as Paris Saint-Germain’s manager in the summer after only 17 months in charge.

Despite winning the Ligue 1 title, many considered last season a failure for PSG as they were eliminated by Real Madrid in the Round of 16 stage of the Champions League.

Pochettino has now hit out at critics who said his poor performance in Europe was the reason for his dismissal.

He suggested that if it was the case, then perhaps other managers such as Guardiola should have received the same fate.

“If [I left] PSG for not winning the Champions League, Guardiola should have already been sacked seven or eight times!

“These are different realities,” Pochettino said.
