Nigeria’s military has declared that insinuations that the country’s leadership may be plunged into an Interim Government, is an “unconstitutional” and “mischievous” thought.
The military high command made this assertion on Thursday in Abuja while answering questions from journalists at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja.
“It is rather unfortunate. Elections have been conducted, INEC who is mandated, has declared the President-elect. People are just trying to be mischievous. It is unconstitutional,” Major General Musa Danmadami, Defence’s Director of Media Operation stated.
On cases of kidnapping resurging again across the country, Danmadami affirmed that the cash scarcity that hit the country prior to the 2023 polls, helped in curbing the purchasing power of kidnappers.

Nigeria’s Department of State Services, DSS, had recently announced that it uncovered a plot for an interim government in Nigeria by “some key players”.
Since then, Nigerians have been concerned about the legal implications and have queried the intentions of the DSS, as well as the steps being taken by the agency in the aftermath of this revelation.
The only time Nigeria had an Interim National Government was in the aftermath of the crisis of the Third Republic, after General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd) handed power over to Ernest Shonekan as Interim Head of State on August 27, 1993.
