Maikaba eyes FA Cup trophy in Asaba

Coach Abdul Maikaba of Rangers International FC of Enugu has assured supporters that his wards will do the needful against Bendel Insurance to win the Federation Cup final in Asaba Delta.

This is contained in a statement made available to the newsmen on Wednesday by the club Media Officer, Norbert Okolie.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the final match between the two sides will come up in Asaba on Wednesday after the female final at the same venue.

According to him, Coach Maikaba is optimistic of leading his wards to victory, going into the Wednesday NFF/TINGO Federation Cup 2023 final match against old-rivals Bendel Insurance.

He said this in an interaction with the coach after the team last training session inside the lush green turf of the Stephen Keshi Stadium Asaba, Delta.

“The widely respected gaffer said that the response he got from his players during their drills in the run-up to the final match gave him the confidence.

“That he has the confidence that the trophy will be heading to the coal city at the end of the encounter.

“I think we have come a long way to this stage of the competition and from the graph of the performance of both sides contesting for the title, it is obvious that Rangers are on high.

“We are on high, compared to our opponents who are on the downwards run and we want to make our fans happy with a good performance and win the trophy for the seventh time,” he said.

According the gaffer, the team will give its all in spite of the injury that plugged the team as he noted that lot of their key players are injured.

“We have some injury worries to some key players but have capable replacements and I am confident and optimistic that we shall get the job done,” he said.

On the motivation of his players, Maikaba, who led Akwa United to an Aiteo Cup triumph years back, said the motivation in the team was high.

“Motivation in the team is very high and I must commend the management and the Government of Enugu State for their efforts in getting the team motivated into this final.

“I believe that we all have every cause to smile after the match,” Okolie qouted Maikaba saying.
