Bauchi Police apprehends ex-convict, two others out on bail for motorcycle theft

An ex-convict, previously pardoned in 2020, has found himself in trouble once again as he and two others currently out on bail were apprehended for alleged criminal conspiracy and theft of a motorcycle.

Their arrest was disclosed in a statement made available to journalists by the Spokesman of the Command, SP Ahmed Wakili, late Friday.

The suspects were said to have been arrested on March 15, 2024, based on a tip-off received by the police regarding the theft of a motorcycle valued at N400,000 in the Gidan Ruwa area of Bauchi State.

Acting swiftly, the statement revealed that operatives from the Area Command, Metropolitan, initiated an investigation into the matter.

The statement added that subsequently, on March 22, 2024, an investigation led to the apprehension of the main suspects: Yusuf Adamu (Dan sarki), aged 30, Mohammed Sanusi, aged 20, and Masa’ud Ibrahim, aged 20.

According to the statement, during interrogation, the suspects confessed to using a fabricated metal object, referred to as “Kati or Chori,” to unlock the motorcycle’s ignition.

They reportedly admitted to selling the stolen motorcycle for N100,000.

Exhibits recovered from the suspects included the stolen motorcycle, the fabricated metal object, and N9,000.

The statement further disclosed that the suspects allegedly shared N100,000 proceeds among themselves, using part of the money to stay in a hotel in Bauchi for a night and purchase illicit substances for their girlfriends.

It was also revealed that two of the arrested suspects were already out on bail for similar offences while one had previously been convicted for breach of trust and cheating but was granted a state pardon in 2022.

Meanwhile, the suspects will be charged in court upon completion of the investigation to face the full wrath of the law.
