As the legal battle intensifies to determine the rightful winner of the Kogi State Gubernatorial election, a dramatic twist unfolded at the election tribunal holding at the National Judicial Institute in Abuja. Exhibits presented to the court have further implicated Ododo Usman for forgery of his Age declaration.
A witness, who is a registrar and commissioner for oath, took the stand to authenticate Ododo’s affidavit. However, during cross-examination by legal representatives from the APC, INEC, and SDP, the registrar disavowed the document, stating that it did not originate from the court and that numerous irregularities were detected.
Prior to the Kogi State November Gubernatorial election, concerns were raised about forgery in the documents submitted by Ododo Usman to INEC, a case that is already being contested in the federal high court. The addition of these new allegations to the petitioner’s (Murtala Yakubu Ajaka) case may further spell trouble for Ododo. If these allegations are verified and proven true, he may face prosecution and a potential prison sentence.
Forgery is considered a serious criminal offense in Nigeria, and if found guilty, individuals may be subject to punishment in accordance with Section 463 of the Criminal Code.
