Police rescue two kidnap victims in Delta

Delta State police command has rescued two kidnap victims from kidnappers’ den in the state.

They were rescued from suspected kidnappers in Okuno, Orogun.

Newsmen learnt that the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi had directed the DPO Abraka Division, SP Fabian Ayameh, to lead police operatives to the kidnappers’ hideout.

The DPO swiftly mobilized police operatives, alongside members of the Abraka vigilante and hunters.

They engaged the suspected kidnappers in a fierce gun duel during which one of the suspects sustained serious gunshot injuries, while others escaped.

The Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), in the state, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed that “one AK-47 rifle and 11 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered.”

He said that ‘the two kidnapped victims (name withheld) were rescued unhurt and have been reunited with their families, while the injured suspect was taken to the hospital where he gave up the ghost while receiving treatment.

“Manhunt for the other fleeing suspects is ongoing,” the statement concluded.

The rescue operation may not be unconnected to the death of a young man murdered in Abavo while in the farm at Okpe village just as the branch chairman of a vigilante outfit, one Mr Beye was hacked down while struggling to rescue kidnapped victims in the area.
