Kayode Peters: Family sets dates for three-country burial rites

The family of late filmmaker, director, and actor Kayode Peters has announced details of his burial ceremonies, which will take place across three countries. 

After a prolonged illness, Peters passed away last month, leaving behind a legacy in Nigeria’s contemporary theatre and television industry. 

His family, in a statement on Instagram, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support they’ve received, thanking loved ones for their love, prayers, messages, and gestures of kindness during this difficult time.

The final rites will include nights of tribute in Lagos and London, followed by a burial service and internment in Toronto, Canada. 

The events are scheduled to take place on July 22 in Lagos, July 29 in London, and August 2 in Toronto. 

The statement reads: “As we prepare to lay our beloved Kayode Peters to rest, from the depths of our hearts, THANK YOU,” the post reads.

“In the midst of this heartbreaking loss, your love, prayers, messages, calls, visits, support, and every gesture of kindness have wrapped us in comfort.

“Upcoming dates and locations of events – Night of Tribute [Lagos] – [22nd July 2025], Night of Tribute [London] – [29th July 2025], Burial Service & Internment [Toronto] – [2nd August 2025].”

Peters was a celebrated figure in the Nigerian entertainment industry, known for creating the hit comedy series “Flatmates” and working on stage plays and sitcoms like “Extended Family”. 

He also won the Best Director (International) award for the movie “Survivors” at the 2024 Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF).
