Onyedega, Kogi State – December 29, 2025 – Stakeholders from Ibaji Local Government Area have expressed deep disappointment and concern over the Kogi State Oil Producing Area Development Commission’s (KOSOPADEC) failure to execute developmental projects in the oil-producing communities despite receiving substantial 13% derivation funds.
In a complaint letter addressed to the KOSOPADEC Chairman, the stakeholders, representing various interest groups, lamented the absence of tangible projects in Ibaji, citing the commission’s non-compliance with its statutory obligations as outlined in the KOSOPADEC Law of 2023.
The stakeholders stressed the deplorable state of infrastructure in Ibaji, including impassable roads, inadequate healthcare facilities, and under-resourced educational institutions, attributing the situation to KOSOPADEC’s neglect of its responsibilities.
The letter demands explanation for the non-execution of projects, financial transparency, and disclosure of the utilization of the 13% derivation funds, citing the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) 2011.
The stakeholders have given KOSOPADEC a prompt response, warning that continued neglect poses a significant threat to socio-economic stability and community relations.
The complaint has been copied to the Executive Governor of Kogi State, the Kogi State House of Assembly, and anti-corruption agencies, among others.
