Police arrest suspected fake JAMB coordinator in Anambra, recover exam slips and documents linked to students.
Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a suspected fake coordinator of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, identified as Eric Nwombu, over alleged impersonation and unlawful possession of examination materials.
The suspect was apprehended on April 14, 2026, by officers attached to the Inspector-General of Police Safe School Initiative squad in Atani, Ogbaru Local Government Area.
According to the police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, items recovered from the suspect include eight JAMB examination slips and an exercise book containing names and examination numbers of students.
Ikenga said the suspect had been collecting examination slips from candidates who visited a cyber café to check their exam centres, falsely claiming to be a JAMB coordinator in the area.
Suspicious of his actions, staff of the computer centre alerted the police, leading to his arrest. The suspect reportedly attempted to flee upon sighting operatives but was quickly apprehended.
The police said preliminary investigations have commenced, with the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka for further inquiry.
The Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting the integrity of public examinations and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
