Kano Assembly confirms Murtala Garo as deputy governor after screening, following resignation of former deputy governor Aminu Abdussalam.
The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed the approval of Alhaji Murtala Garo as the new Deputy Governor of the state.
Lawmakers approved Garo’s appointment during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Jibril Isma’il Falgore, after the House committee screened him to replace former Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdussalam, who had earlier resigned.
Presenting the report to the House on Monday, the committee Chairman and Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Bello, explained that the screening followed Section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 Constitution, which allows the Assembly to confirm a nominee when there is a vacancy.
He said during the screening, Garo answered questions about his education, work experience, knowledge of governance, and his plans for Kano State, adding that Garo’s credentials were also checked.
The committee said Garo also demonstrated a good understanding of the role and shared ideas on how to support Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration.
Based on this, the committee recommended his confirmation, and the Assembly agreed by adopting the report.
