Veteran full-back Ashley Young confirms retirement, targeting promotion with Ipswich Town in final Championship fixture this weekend.
Ashley Young has confirmed he will retire at the end of the season, bringing down the curtain on a 23-year professional career that has taken him across England and Italy.
The 40-year-old, currently with Ipswich Town, said his immediate focus is helping the club secure promotion to the Premier League on the final day of the Championship season.
Young, who has made 765 club appearances and scored 88 goals, described his career as a “dream” and said he will reflect on his future plans in the coming months.
He enjoyed trophy-laden spells with Manchester United, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and Europa League and later lifted the Serie A title with Inter Milan.
At international level, Young earned 39 caps for England national team.
Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna praised Young’s influence, highlighting his professionalism and determination as key contributions during the club’s promotion push.
