16 Feared Dead As Bus Plunges Off Bridge In Kogi Road Crash

Sixteen people died after an 18-seater bus crashed off a bridge along Kogi’s Okene–Lokoja highway on Friday.

At least 16 people have been confirmed dead in a fatal road crash along the Okene–Osara–Lokoja Road in Kogi State.

The accident occurred in the early hours of Friday when an 18-seater passenger bus reportedly veered off a bridge in Osara, Adavi Local Government Area, plunging to the ground.

The Kogi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lawal Fagge, confirmed the incident during a telephone interview with Arise News.

He said only two passengers survived the crash but sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.

According to him, FRSC rescue teams from the Zariagi Unit were quickly deployed to the scene to evacuate victims and clear the wreckage.

Fagge attributed the crash to excessive speeding.

He added that the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at a morgue in Lokoja.

The incident has renewed concerns over dangerous driving habits on Nigerian highways, with authorities again urging motorists to obey speed limits and safety rules.
