The PDP has cleared former President Goodluck Jonathan as its sole presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has emerged as the sole presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2027 general election, following clearance by the party’s screening committee chaired by former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu.
Jonathan’s emergence was announced on Tuesday after the conclusion of the screening exercise conducted by the committee led by Aliyu.
Confirming the development, a chieftain of the PDP, Umar Sani, disclosed that the former president had already purchased the party’s nomination form, signalling his readiness to return to partisan politics ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Sani made the disclosure during an interview on Tuesday, stressing that Jonathan’s actions demonstrated clear political intent.
“In politics, what is important is action. If you are interested, there are processes you have to follow, one of which is the procurement of nomination forms. He has done that,” Sani said.
When asked directly whether Jonathan had indeed obtained the nomination form, Sani replied, “Yes and in fact, he is about to come and submit the forms publicly.”
