Chelsea Beat Tottenham 2-1 To Leave London Rivals Facing Premier League Relegation Battle

Chelsea beat Tottenham 2-1 at Stamford Bridge, leaving rivals facing a tense final-day Premier League survival battle.

Chelsea boosted their hopes of European qualification while dragging Tottenham Hotspur deeper into relegation trouble with a 2-1 Premier League victory at Stamford Bridge.

Goals from Enzo Fernandez and Andrey Santos either side of halftime secured Chelsea’s first league win since March 4 and lifted them to eighth place, one point behind Brighton & Hove Albion in the race for a Europa League spot.

Tottenham, meanwhile, remain just two points above the relegation zone after another damaging defeat in a miserable campaign. Despite holding a superior goal difference over 18th-placed West Ham United, Spurs still require at least a draw against Everton on the final day to all but guarantee survival.

Fernandez opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a stunning long-range strike that flew beyond goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky, igniting celebrations among the home supporters.

The Argentine midfielder later turned provider in the 67th minute, nudging a high ball into the path of Santos, who finished from close range to double Chelsea’s lead.

Richarlison pulled one back for Tottenham in the 74th minute to briefly revive the visitors’ hopes, but Chelsea held firm despite late pressure.

James Maddison came closest to an equaliser in the closing stages, only for defender Jorrel Hato to produce a crucial block in the 84th minute.

Spurs had earlier struck the post through Mathys Tel’s header but struggled to recover after Chelsea took control of the contest.

The result also extended Tottenham’s poor record at Stamford Bridge, where they have won only once in the Premier League era since 1990.

Chelsea entered the match fresh from appointing former Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso as their next manager following a disappointing season that also included defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup final.
