Fubara Says Democracy Remains Nigeria’s Strongest Path To Unity And Prosperity

Fubara says democracy best suits Nigeria’s diversity and urges citizens to sustain unity, accountability and democratic values.

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, says democracy remains the most effective system of government for Nigeria, given the country’s ethnic, religious and cultural diversity.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, the governor made the comment in his Democracy Day message.

He said June 12 reflects the struggle for freedom, justice and representative governance in Nigeria.

He paid tribute to those who fought for democracy, including MKO Abiola, Kudirat Abiola and others.

According to him: “June 12 is a reminder of the price paid for the democracy we enjoy today. The sacrifices made by Chief MKO Abiola, Kudirat Abiola, and many other patriots who laid the foundation for the democratic journey we continue to enjoy today. Their commitment to the principle that power must ultimately reside with the people remains a source of inspiration for every generation of Nigerians.”

Governor Fubara said Nigeria’s democratic system has continued to evolve over the years despite challenges.

He said citizens’ ability to express opinions and choose leaders remains a key national achievement.

He added that Nigeria’s diversity should be seen as a strength when properly managed through democratic governance.

Fubara also commended President Bola Tinubu for efforts under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He said the Rivers State Government would continue to work with the Federal Government on development and security issues.

He urged Nigerians to remain committed to accountability, justice and national unity.

He said democracy should go beyond elections and be reflected in daily governance and civic responsibility.
