Katsina Awards 66 Water Projects, Inaugurates 32

Governor Dikko Radda says 32 of 66 water supply projects awarded across Katsina have been completed and inaugurated.

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State has revealed that his administration had awarded contracts for the construction of 66 small town water supply schemes across various local government areas of the state.

Radda, who disclosed this Thursday while inaugurating the Tsagero Small Town Water Supply Scheme in Rimi Local Government Area of the state, said 32 of the projects had been completed and were either operational or awaiting inauguration.

He said: “As part of our commitment to expanding access to potable water in rural and semi-urban communities, we awarded contracts for 66 Small Town Water Supply Schemes across Katsina State.

“I am pleased to inform you that 32 of these schemes have been completed and are either operational or ready for commissioning across the 34 local government areas of the state.”

Radda added that the state government had constructed 150 household sanitation facilities, 500 household latrines and installed a 30,000-litre-per-hour water treatment plant to improve sanitation and water supply.

He explained that the Tsagero and other water projects reflect his administration’s commitment to improving the quality of life of citizens through the provision of essential public services.

He noted that the scheme would provide safe and sustainable water supply to households, schools, healthcare facilities and businesses in Tsagero and neighbouring communities.

He further stated that water sector development remains one of the top priorities of his administration because of its direct impact on education, gender equality, environmental sustainability and economic growth.

Radda, however, emphasised that the sustainability of the facilities would depend on effective management, routine maintenance and community ownership.

The governor, therefore, called on traditional leaders, local administrators and residents to safeguard the infrastructure and ensure its responsible use.

He assured the people of the state that more small town water supply and sanitation agency (STOWASSA) projects would be executed across the state to ensure universal access to safe and reliable water services.
