Omoyele Sowore says his detention strengthened his resolve as he regains freedom from Kuje Correctional Centre on Tuesday.
Online publisher and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, on Tuesday declared that his detention had strengthened his resolve to continue his struggle after regaining freedom from the Kuje Correctional Centre.
Sowore announced his release in a post on X on Tuesday after perfecting the bail conditions granted by the Federal High Court in Abuja in his ongoing cybercrime and criminal defamation trial. In the post, he described his detention as unjust and vowed to remain committed to his cause.
“Leaving Kuje Prison after being unjustly incarcerated by the failed traitor to the Nigerian people, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and his regime.
“Prison has never broken the resolve of those who fight for justice. If anything, it only strengthens our determination.
“The struggle continues. We will never surrender.”
Sowore’s release comes hours after the Federal High Court granted him bail in the sum of N200 million with two sureties. The court ordered that one surety must be a traditional ruler from his community in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State, while the other must own landed property within the Federal Capital Territory.
The court also directed him to deposit his international passport with the deputy registrar, while the prosecution is to verify the sureties before the bail takes effect.
Sowore was remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre after the court revoked the bail earlier granted to him on self-recognition over his failure to appear for trial and issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
The Department of State Services (DSS) is prosecuting Sowore on charges of alleged cybercrime and criminal defamation stemming from social media posts in which he referred to President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal.”
Justice Umar Mohammed adjourned the matter until July 6, 2026, for the continuation of hearing.
