NDLEA warns parents and travellers as traffickers use everyday products to conceal and move illicit drugs.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has raised concerns over attempts by drug traffickers to conceal illicit substances in products such as cookies, gummies and phone chargers.
Femi Babafemi, the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, issued the warning in a post on X on Sunday, urging parents to pay closer attention to their children’s interest in cookies and gummies.
Babafemi said recent seizures by NDLEA operatives showed that criminal networks were increasingly disguising illicit substances as ordinary consumer products.
He shared images of colourful packages labelled “Cookies Delta 8 Gummies”, with flavours including Hawaiian Rain, Pineapple Guava and Thai Mango.
According to him, the packaging was part of an attempt to make the illicit products appear like ordinary confectionery.
In a separate post, Babafemi disclosed that NDLEA operatives had intercepted consignments of cocaine concealed inside phone chargers.
He said the chargers were being used to disguise cocaine allegedly destined for Saudi Arabia.
Babafemi also warned travellers against accepting parcels, luggage or other packages from people without confirming their contents.
He said drug traffickers could exploit unsuspecting travellers to transport illicit substances, urging the public to exercise caution when asked to deliver items on behalf of others.
The NDLEA has continued to warn Nigerians about increasingly sophisticated methods used by drug traffickers to conceal and transport illicit substances.
