The chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Grace Ike, today felicitated with Muslim faithful in the Federal Capital Territory and across Nigeria on the occasion of this year’s Maulid celebration, commemorating the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
In a statement issued on Tuesday Ike described Maulid as a significant occasion that recalls the exemplary life and teachings of the Prophet, including his commitment to peace, compassion, justice, humility, honesty and love for humanity.
She said those virtues should guide journalists in the discharge of their professional duties.
“At a time when our nation needs greater unity, tolerance and mutual understanding, the teachings of the Prophet provide enduring lessons on peaceful coexistence and respect for one another,” the statement read.
Ike urged Muslim faithful to use the occasion to pray for peace, stability and prosperity in Nigeria, and to promote dialogue and tolerance among the country’s diverse communities.
The NUJ FCT Council reiterated its commitment to promoting responsible journalism, professional excellence and the protection of values that strengthen democracy and society.
Ike called on media practitioners to uphold truth, justice and humanity in their work.
The chairman prayed that Almighty Allah accept the nation’s prayers and bless Nigeria with peace and prosperity, and wished all Muslim faithful a happy Maulid celebration.
