Atlanta United Sign Swiss Striker Breel Embolo From Rennes

Atlanta United have completed the signing of Switzerland international, Breel Embolo from Rennes on a four-year MLS contract.

Atlanta United have completed the signing of Switzerland international striker, Breel Embolo from French Ligue 1 side Rennes.

The 29-year-old has signed a contract through the 2029-30 MLS season and will occupy a Designated Player spot. Atlanta announced the deal on August 23, with reports putting the transfer fee at around €15 million to €17 million ($18 million).

Embolo joins after scoring 10 goals and providing three assists in 34 appearances for Rennes last season. He previously played for Monaco, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Schalke, while also establishing himself as a key figure for Switzerland.

The forward was part of Switzerland’s 2026 World Cup squad and has 26 goals in 92 international appearances. His arrival is expected to strengthen an Atlanta attack that had scored just 23 goals, the fewest in the Eastern Conference at the time of the signing.

Atlanta sporting director, Chris Henderson said Embolo’s experience at the highest level, goal-scoring ability, link-up play and work rate would strengthen the team’s attack.

Embolo reportedly chose MLS despite interest from several European clubs, completing his move to Atlanta after just one season at Rennes.
