Swiss rave shooting suspect has surrendered to police and admitted carrying out the attack that killed one person and injured six others.
A 43-year-old Swiss man has surrendered to police and admitted carrying out a shooting at a rave in Aarau that killed one person and injured six others.
Swiss police said the suspect handed himself in at a police station in Delémont, about 33 miles (53 kilometres) from Aarau, a day after the attack.
The man, who was arrested on Monday, reportedly went to the station voluntarily after investigators launched a search for him and his vehicle.
Police said there was no evidence suggesting that anyone else was involved in the shooting, which took place at a rave attended by more than 100 people.
Michael Leupold, commander of the Aargau cantonal police, said investigators were highly confident that the arrested man was responsible for the attack and believed he acted alone.
Authorities said the suspect has not been publicly identified, in line with Swiss privacy laws.
Three firearms were recovered from his vehicle, including an AK-74 Kalashnikov assault rifle and two handguns. Investigators determined that the assault rifle and one of the pistols had been used during the shooting.
Police said the suspect drove to the event and opened fire indiscriminately, discharging more than 40 rounds into the crowd.
After leaving the venue, he returned to the parking area, where he fired several more shots with a handgun, including at a vehicle attempting to leave the scene.
A 22-year-old Italian woman died in the attack, while six other people sustained injuries. Two victims remained in hospital, with their conditions reportedly improving.
Prosecutors said investigators had identified possible signs of mental health problems involving the suspect. However, police said they had found no evidence pointing to an ideological or extremist motive behind the shooting.
