VP Shettima is set to represent Tinubu at BRICS summit in New Delhi, seeking stronger cooperation in trade, investment and development.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima will represent President Bola Tinubu at the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit scheduled to take place in New Delhi, India, this weekend.
In a statement on Friday, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima’s spokesperson, said the Vice-President would join leaders from BRICS member and partner countries, as well as other invited dignitaries, for plenary and high-level sessions.
He said discussions at the summit would focus on global economic growth, multilateral cooperation and shared development priorities.
Nkwocha added that Shettima would hold bilateral meetings with leaders and senior officials from participating countries, with discussions expected to centre on opportunities for stronger economic and diplomatic cooperation.
“The engagement will provide Nigeria with another platform to strengthen partnerships in trade and investment, energy, agriculture, solid minerals, technology, and innovation, while promoting greater cooperation among countries of the Global South,” the statement said.
Nigeria became a BRICS partner country in January 2025, joining the economic bloc of major emerging economies.
The 18th summit is being held under the theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”
According to Nkwocha, the summit will provide Nigeria with another opportunity to deepen South-South cooperation and engage major emerging economies on trade, investment, development finance and reforms to global governance institutions.
He added that Shettima is expected to return to Nigeria after participating in the summit.
