‘Street Fighter’ Targets $30m Opening As ‘You Can See Everything’ Eyes Documentary Record

Street Fighter targets $30 million domestically, while A24’s You Can See Everything heads for a record-breaking documentary debut.

Street Fighter is heading towards a $30 million opening weekend at the North American box office, while A24’s documentary You Can See Everything is projected to earn $12 million in its debut.

The two films are among the major releases competing for audiences this weekend, with Street Fighter taking in $12.5 million on Friday, including previews, across 3,575 theatres.

The film’s projected opening is close to the $33.4 million earned by the original 1994 Street Fighter film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, which opened with $6.8 million.

The new adaptation of the Capcom video game earned $4 million in previews and is the first Legendary title released under its new deal with Paramount. The film, which has a PG-13 rating, was co-financed by Legendary and Capcom at a net cost of $82 million.

Its social media reach stood at 920.6 million across TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and X ahead of the weekend, according to RelishMix. The figure exceeds the reported reach of other video game adaptations, including A Minecraft Movie, Mortal Kombat 2 and Five Nights at Freddy’s.

The film has an 80 per cent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, although critics have given it a 47 per cent score.

Meanwhile, You Can See Everything is projected to earn $12 million after taking $5.3 million on Friday, including previews, across 885 theatres.

The three-hour documentary follows former Theranos chief executive Elizabeth Holmes and her partner, Billy Evans, in the period leading up to her imprisonment. Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim directed the film.

Its projected debut would surpass the $7.1 million opening of Melania, which previously set a recent documentary opening record, and place it among the strongest documentary debuts in the past 17 years, excluding concert films.

The film took in about $2 million in previews and has recorded a 99 per cent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. It also received strong early audience responses, with 92 per cent of viewers saying they would definitely recommend it and a 100 per cent positive score reported in its preview exits.

Elsewhere, Universal’s horror film Other Mommy is projected to earn $7.4 million in its second weekend, taking its cumulative domestic total to $43.9 million.

20th Century Studios’ Whalefall is tracking below expectations, with a projected opening of $6 million to $7 million after taking $2.6 million on Friday, including previews. The film was initially expected to open above $11 million.

Focus Features’ Sense & Sensibility revival is projected to earn $6 million over the weekend after taking $3 million on Friday.
