Ronaldo Handed 30-Day Suspension, €255 Fine For Walking Out On Portugal Camp

Cristiano Ronaldo has been handed a 30-day suspension and fined €255 by the Portuguese Football Federation for walking out on Portugal’s camp.

The federation, which provisionally suspended the forward, said on Monday that the punishment was “adequate and sufficient.”

According to the federation, Ronaldo fully admitted the facts underlying the charges in a formal statement submitted on Friday. His confession and clean disciplinary record helped reduce the punishment.

The €255 fine was the maximum allowable under the federation’s rules after mitigating circumstances were taken into account.

Ronaldo can appeal the suspension. However, he had already apologised and said he expected to be punished. He had not immediately reacted publicly to news of the suspension.

During recent Nations League fixtures, Ronaldo featured in Portugal’s opening win over Wales before remaining an unused substitute in a victory over Norway on September 27.

The forward accused coach Jorge Jesus of breaking an agreement to play him before walking out on the camp.

Portugal went on to beat Denmark and Norway again without Ronaldo, securing qualification for the quarter-finals.

The suspension took effect on October 1, the day Portugal faced Denmark. Ronaldo has already served 19 days of the ban and is expected to be available for Portugal’s next Nations League match against Denmark on November 14.
