NIS hands over victims of human trafficking to NAPTIP in Sokoto

Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, has handed over eleven (11) Libya bound Human Trafficking victims to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, in Sokoto State.

In a press release issued Sunday by the Service Public Relations Officer, CIS Tony Akuneme, the Comptroller of Immigration, Illela Border Command, Ado Rano Sabo, on Friday 10th, March 2023 while handing the victims over to the Zonal Commandant of NAPTIP in Sokoto revealed that the victims, all women, were apprehended in Niger Republic on their way to Libya.

Ado said that they were repatriated back to Nigeria by the Niger Republic Police and handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service at the Illela Border Command.

The Comptroller added that the young women were from different parts of the country and of ages ranging from 19 to 37.

He advised Nigerians to desist from undertaking such perilous journeys, noting that most victims end up being used for labour exploitation, prostitution, or organ harvesting.
