INEC declares Adamawa Governorship Election inconclusive

Adamawa state governorship election has been declared inconclusive, even as Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri leads with 421524.

Declaring the polls inclusive, the returning officer, Professor Mohammed Melee said the election was inconclusive because the cancelled votes exceeded the margin of victory.

According to him, elections were cancelled in 47 Registration Areas with a total of 41796  registered voters, while 31249 Permanent Voter Cards were collected.

The collation officer said a winner could not be declared because the number of collected PVCs at over 37,000 is more than the margin of lead by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri over his challenger Aishatu Binani of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Fintiri of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), polled 421,524 votes to defeat nearest contender, Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani of the All Progressives Congress (APC), scored 390,275

The announcement followed the collation of the controversial results from Fufore local government area. As imputed, APC’s Binani scored 24777 while the incumbent governor, Fintiri trailed her with 20409 from Fufore local government area.

After computation, the returning officer, Professor Mohammed Mele, announced the election as inconclusive.

The results were declared under a tensed atmosphere, after counter accusations of plans to rig by both sides.
