Tinubu assumes office, meets CBN governor, NNPC GMD over exchange rate, fuel scarcity

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Tuesday assumed office officially and is meeting with the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele and the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Group Managing Director (GMD) Mele Kyari

The President had while delivering his inaugural speech at the Eagle Square yesterday, said “subsidy is gone” adding that his predecessor did not make a provision for subsidy in the 2023 budget as it elapsed in June 30th.

Few hours after President Tinubu announced that subsidy will end, queues suddenly surged as some fueling stations increased the price.

Tinubu arrived the Forecourt of the Presidential Villa at 2:38 PM and was received by the Vice President Kashim Shettima, the Permanent Secretary of the State House Mr Tijani Umar, Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila, Hon James Faleke amongst other officials.

Tinubu meets Emefiele over the need to unify the foreign exchange windows to one to attract investment while the NNPC GMD, Kyari will address the queue on the fueling stations and proffer solutions to the palliative required to curtail the pains of the subsidy removal.

While the State House awaits the arrival of the president, at 2:30 PM, his vice, Shettima had resumed office earlier about 1PM.
