10th Senate: Akpabio Emerges Senate President of the 10th Assembly

The former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and ex Minister of the Niger Delta Affairs Ministry, Godswill Akpabio has emerged victorious over Challenger, Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari, the former Governor of Zamfara State in the race for the Senate President of the 10th Assembly.

Senator Godswill Akpabio scored 63 Votes while Senator Abdul Aziz Yari got 46 Votes.

Senator Akpabio contested alongside Senator Jibrin Barau (APC, Kano North) in the same ticket as against Senator Abdullaziz Yari and Senator Orji Uzor kalu, Abia North.

The nomination of Akpabio for Senate President was put forward by Senator Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South.

He later emerged the Director General of the Senator Godswill Akpabio campaign team otherwise known as the Stability Group.

The voting recorded no abstention of any of the 109 Senators.
