Israel, Morocco agree on climate, environmental cooperation

Israel and Morocco have agreed to cooperate on climate and environmental issues, Israel’s Ministry of Environmental Protection said on Sunday.

Collaborations include climate change, preservation of the marine and coastal environment, conservation of biological diversity and ecosystems, water desalination and management, air quality, environmental technologies and innovations, and regional initiatives, according to a ministry statement.

The two countries are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding on these issues in July, after a meeting between Moroccan Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Leila Benali and Israeli Minister of Environmental Protection Idit Silman in Morocco’s capital Rabat on Friday.

The document is likely to be signed in New York during the annual United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.

The agreement will be a basis for environment and climate cooperation between research institutes, entrepreneurs, and private and public entities, alongside governmental and local environmental organisations in Morocco and Israel, according to the statement.
