Police apprehend 21-year-old who stabbed husband in Bauchi

In a statement on July 7, 2023, Acting spokesperson ASP Aminu Gimba Ahmed revealed that the suspect engaged in an altercation with her husband, Aliyu Mohammad, which led to her stabbing him in the chest with a knife.

The incident took place at the couple’s residence on July 5, 2023. The suspect sustained minor injuries to her stomach during the altercation and confessed to the crime.

“The detectives from the Township Divisional Police headquarters in Bauchi received information on July 5, 2023, at approximately 11:40 PM, leading to the arrest of Maimunatu Sulaiman, a 21-year-old female resident of Kofar Dumi area in Bauchi state, for her alleged involvement in culpable homicide,” the statement read.

“Upon receiving the information, the detectives, accompanied by the Divisional Police Officer, promptly proceeded to the crime scene and immediately transferred both the victim and the suspect to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, for medical attention.

“Medical reports obtained later confirmed the victim’s demise due to the injury sustained on his chest, while the suspect suffered minor injuries to her stomach.

“Initial investigations revealed that the suspect, Maimuna Sulaiman, stabbed her husband, Aliyu Mohammad, at their matrimonial home as a result of a heated altercation that occurred on July 5, 2023, at around 6:00 PM.

“During questioning, the suspect admitted to committing the crime.”

Subsequently, the Commissioner of Police CP Auwal Musa Mohammad, psc, instructed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding the victim’s death.

The PPRO added that once the investigation is concluded, the suspect will face charges in court.
