NEC backs Tinubu’s development agenda

The National Economic Council (NEC) has declared its support for the eight point agenda of President Bola Tinubu, describing it as the key to Nigeria’s development.

Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, announced this while briefing Presidential Correspondents at the end of the national economic council meeting presided over by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Stye House’s Council chambers.

The minister said: “the meeting appreciates all the eight-point agenda of President Bola Tinubu and his investment drive around the world and measures he has taken so far.”

Bagudu said that the Council was satisfied with the collaborations between the central and State governments in Nigeria and advised the sub-nationals to explore opportunities that now abound in the energy sector in line with the new electricity Act.

He said, “in particular the meeting agreed that there should be vigorous implementation of key resolutions in collaboration between the States and the Federal government.

“One of the resolutions highlighted is the energy sufficiency for sustainable economic development, government at all levels should promote the migration of heavy duty industry system form fossil fuel to gas infrastructure as well as acknowledging that the new Electricity Act empowers States and individuals to participate in all components of the energy sector,” he said.

The minister stressed that State governments were encouraged to carry out energy audits in order to determine their energy needs as well as explore areas of collaboration with the private sector based on their competitive advantages.
