By Augustine Aminu

The Senate committee on industries have urged the federal government to immediately open it’s boarders to allow for free trade and compliance with the ECOWAS treaty .

The committee also pointed out that expected currencies will not be able to come into the country to boost the economy especially the small businesses as well as export that will shore up the naira unless the boarders are opened .

Chairman of the committee Senator Francis Fadahusi who stated this while laying out the work plan for his committee pointed out that panel will use legislations through oversight and enabling laws to ensure that the manufacturing sector comes alive.

According to him, youth restiveness is caused by the alarming number of jobless young people who must be properly engaged .

The committee chairman pointed out that the ECOWAS treaty must be observed so as to allow legitimate passage of goods and currencies as a measure to halt dollar smuggling.

“We need to open our boarders immediately for trade, because currencies at the moment cannot move if our boarders remain closed .

“The government should be concerned about the small and micro businesses . Our industries must as well work efficiently .

“We need to stop the importation of the items we can produce here . What is happening is that, we even import toothpick and we cannot make any progress with such mentality “.
