A’Court verdict: Kano govt mobilising rioters to cause unrest in metropolis

A pro-All Progressives Congress (APC) group, on the aegis of the Progressive League of Youth Voters (PLYV) has raised an alarm that the Kano state government was mobilizing protesters to cause unrest in the state’s metropolis on Wednesday in reaction to the Court of Appeal verdict that sacked Governor Abba Yusuf as governor.

In a statement signed Tuesday in Abuja by the National Coordinator of the group, Amb. Audu Usman Shuaibu, called on security agencies to come to the aid of Kano residents and protect people of Kano state from the rioters.

According to Shuaibu, the aim is to blackmail and frighten the Supreme Court panel of judges that will be sitting on the Kano State governorship appeal and force the Honourable Justices to reverse the Appeal Court decision in their favour.

The statement read: “We wish to alert the general public and call on the attention of the Inspector General of Police, Director General, Department of State Services and other security agencies towards the inhuman activities of the Governor of Kano State Abba Kabir Yusuf over his electoral loss at the Appeal Court.

“Our team in Kano State has informed us that the NNPP led Kano State Government has concluded plans to convey thousands of rioters in the guise of its supporters from the 44 local government areas of the State into Kano Metropolis to protest against the NNPP loss at the Appeal Court.

“The State Government is using the over one hundred (100) luxurious buses purchased by the immediate past Governor of Kano State and the National Chairman of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje CFR to ease transportation of Kano residents while he was the Governor.

“The government is to convey these rioters as passengers which will enable them bypass security agencies and cause mayhem in the State capital. The rioters have been mobilised and instructed to cause maximum mayhem in the city immediately upon arrival.

“We condemn and consider this a shear blackmail which must be resisted by the judiciary and all well meaning Nigerians.

It is disheartening to see a government saddled with the responsibility of protecting lives and property plotting to kill and destroy property of citizens.

“It could be recalled that this same NNPP led Kano State Government started demolition of lawfully acquired property of citizens worth over two hundred billion Naira (N200BN) within six (6) days of assumption of office.

We call on all relevant security agencies to come to the aid of Kano residents and protect the good people of Kano State.”

While calling on elders and leaders of thought to call the NNPP leaders in Kano order, the statement said: “This act of do or die politics is dangerous to peaceful co-existence and must be checkmated immediately.”
