Kano: Arrest Kwankwaso over plot by supporters to occupy Supreme Court, Coalition charges IGP

The Coalition of Civil Society Organisation for Dmocracy has raised the alarm of sub-terrenean plot by members of the Kwankwasiya political movement to occupy the Supreme Court promises ahead of its verdict on the Kano governorship tussle between Governor Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples party (NNPP) and Dr Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

National Secretary of the Coalition, Otunba Eniola Enaife, at a press conference, Thursday in Abuja described the ugly trends as an emerging insurrection that must be checkmated by security agents in the country.

While calling on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to order arrest of the former Kano state governor and other leaders of the NNPP in state suspected to be behind the plot, the group called on the Supreme Court Justices not to be intimidated by the threat of members of the Kwankwasiya movement aggrieved with the outcome of the verdicts of the Kano election petition tribunal and the Appeal Court that affirmed the victory of Gawuna as the duly elected Governor of Kano state.

Alleging that the plot is aimed at undermining the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led administration, the group claimed that members of the Kwankwasiya movement have also perfected the plot to occupy foreign missions in the country.

The group further alleged of plot by the Kwankwasiya movement to attack prominent APC members both within and outside Kano State adding it behooves security agents to nip the dastard act in the bud before it goes out of hands.

To this end, the group called for the arrest of the presidential candidate of the NNPP in the 2023 poll, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso who is the leader of the Kwankwassiya movement in the country.

“This act is against the tenets of democracy hence we in the Coalition for Democracy have come out to speak and act according to the rule of law.

“We must stand as a people to resist every form of intimidation, blackmail against the President and the judiciary. If we allow Kwankwaso and his gang to go scout free, others will follow his steps which is too dangerous for us as a Nation.

“One may be tempted to ask, why is it too important for Mr Kwankwaso and his cronies to set Nigeria on fire because their party lost Kano State Governorship elections? Kwankwaso has lost election before as governor, he staged a come back and was reelected.

“Why is he now finding it difficult to prepare for another election instead, instigating violence using the Kwankwassiya Movement in Kano and one Ladipo Johnson in Abuja?

“We unequivocally call on the Inspector General of Police to stand up to his responsibility by arresting Mr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso because his desperation to malign the image of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the judiciary by causing ethnic and religious war in the Country is clearer now, than a clean water.

“We shall not hesitate to raise alarm whenever we notice any sinister move to cause trouble before and after the judgement of the Supreme Court regarding the Kano Governorship election.

“Therefore, we restate the call for the arrest of key leaders of Kwankwasiyya Movement and some sympathisers of Governor Abba Yusuf, who are bent on causing trouble if the outcome of Supreme Court do not favour them. Especially, the Attorney General of Kano State.”
