…tasks appointees on loyalty, teamwork
Governor Abdullahi Sule said his administration worked hard to ensure that the state paid its counterpart funding to the Universal Basic Education Board (UBEC) up to 2023, in order to enable the state execute projects aimed at uplifting the quality and standard of education in the state.
Governor Sule made this known when he met all his political appointees at the Government House on Thursday.
According to the Governor, his administration, in its determination to implement the recommendations of the committee that carried out the baseline survey of public schools, worked hard to not only settle the outstanding liabilities but paid the UBEC counterpart fund up till 2023.
“We are paying because we know we need the money for us to be able to execute the responsibilities that we have assigned. If you remember, we set up a baseline survey team that told us the conditions of our schools. And that is the reason we are going overboard to ensure that we have resources to do that. It’s not because we have too much money than other states. It’s because we have more challenges than other states. That is why we are going over the board to ensure that we get money to do this,” he stated.
This is just as Governor Sule charged all his political appointees on loyalty and team work towards ensuring that the administration succeeds.
The Governor warmed that he would not hesitate to sanction any appointee whose loyalty becomes doubtful, stressing that he would no longer tolerate acts of disloyalty to his administration.
“We have done the best to look the other side and to look away during the difficult time of the election and election crisis. I want to tell you without any ambiguity that we will not entertain disloyalty to this government. People that were found to have their loyalty somewhere else will not work with this government,” he warned.
Governor Sule used the opportunity of the meeting to emphasized the significance of unity and teamwork amongst the appointees, adding that the purpose of the meeting was to bring all appointees on the same page and to knit together as one family for the purpose of attaining the goals and objectives of the administration.
He said with the available opportunities coming into the state, for instance the N13.6bn windfall from the NG-CARES programme, with 15 km of rural roads to be constructed across the 13 local government areas, all the administration requires is for the appointees to monitor these projects in their various constituencies in order to ensure the right things are done.
“This is not something we are saying we are planning to do. This something that has already been planned, the money received and we are only waiting to start the job. In this case, we need your help to monitor the projects and ensure that everything is being done well,” he stated.
He assured that his administration has lined up projects for commissioning soon.
“We have plenty of work to do in Nasarawa State. Right now we are just doing projects quietly we are not even commissioning them. By the grace of God we will invite you to join us commissioning one project after the other,” he added.
The Governor also used the opportunity to caution the appointees against making unguarded comments regarding the ongoing case before the supreme court, urging them to allow his lawyers to handle the situation.
The Governor thanked the appointees for accepting their various responsibilities to serve the state and his administration.
In a welcome address, Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State, Barrister Mohammed Ubandoma Aliyu, appreciated Governor Sule for bringing positive changes and progress in the development aspirations of the state.
“We are truly grateful for the impact you have made in the development and prosperity of our state,” the SSG said.
The SSG disclosed that the Governor under this new dispensation, appointed 193 aides comprising of twenty special advisers, fifty-five senior special assistants, seventy-six special assistants and fourty-two personal assistants.
In a vote of thanks on behalf of the appointees, Chairman, Nasarawa State Civil Service Commission, Musa Dangana Giza, commended the leadership style of the Governor, pledging the loyalty and commitment of the appointees.
