Igala Journalists Offer Heartfelt Condolences to Grieving Ata Igala

By Omonu YG Nelson

The Forum of Igala Journalists (FORIJA) has penned a moving letter of condolence to His Royal Majesty Matthew Alaji Opaluwa Oguche Akpa II, the Ata Igala, in the wake of the tragic passing of his beloved elder sister, Her Royal Highness Memuna Opaluwa-Ogwuche Akpa, and her five-year-old granddaughter.

The letter, signed by Reuben Ojima Okala on behalf of FORIJA, acknowledged the immense sorrow that has engulfed the Igala Kingdom. “Words feel like feathers against a mountain of grief,” it opens, poignantly capturing the enormity of the loss.

FORIJA expressed its deep understanding of the Ata Igala’s personal pain, describing Princess Memuna not just as a sister, but as a confidante, a pillar of strength, and a fundamental thread in the royal family’s tapestry. The letter recounts her warmth and kindness, her radiant smile, and her innate ability to make everyone feel valued and seen.

“She was a symphony of kindness and quiet strength,” the letter reads, “Her presence, a sanctuary in the tumult of life.”

Acknowledging the unimaginable depths of the Ata Igala’s grief, FORIJA pledged its unwavering support. “You are not alone,” the letter assures him, “We walk beside you, holding space for your sorrow, for the sharing of memories, and for the release of tears.”

While acknowledging the irreplaceable loss, FORIJA finds solace in the enduring spirit of Princess Memuna. “The love she gave so freely will forever bloom in the hearts of those who knew her,” the letter asserts, offering the Ata Igala and the royal family the hope of finding peace in her memory.

The letter concluded with a powerful image – “May her memory be a balm upon your soul, and may time, though it cannot erase the tears, eventually grant you and your family a measure of peace.”

This heartfelt message from the Forum of Igala Journalists stands as a testament to the deep respect and affection held for the royal family during this time of unimaginable grief. It is a poignant reminder of the strength and unity that can be found in community, even in the face of profound loss.
