AFCON 2023: Senegal’s Lamine Camara steals headline in Cote D’Ivoire with stellar performance

Senegal’s Lamine Camara is stealing headlines at the ongoing 2023 AFCON after posting a stellar performance in his first game against Gambia.

Camara’s brace and his overall performance earned him the individual accolade which he says will motivate him to work even harder and it must also be credited to his teammates.

“I am happy with this recognition. This is the result of the hard work that we all did. Winning the first match remains a good thing” said the Metz FC player who recently joined the French club.

“I am pleased after scoring a brace in the match, and I must remain focused now on the rest of the matches. I am pleased to participate in such a tournament with the first team and to be in the company of senior players such as Sadio Mane and others. These players are the ones who helped me stand out today”, concluded Camara.

In 2023 Camara won the CHAN and under 20 AFCON titles.

He was named second best player at CHAN and the overall best player at under 20 AFCON.

The young forward was named CAF’s young player of the year 2023.

Camara made his AFCON debut for Senegal against Gambia where he scored two goals with one of them already picked as contender for the goal of the tournament.

His stellar performance already earned him the man of the match award.
