For its strides in Infrastructure, ICT, Student Welfare and other key areas, the Federal Polytechnic Auchi, Edo State, has received commendation from the CSOs Budget Implementation Assessment, Monitoring and Evaluation Committee, CBIAMEC.
The committee gave the commendation on Tuesday in Abuja while briefing journalists at the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ Secretariat, after conducting an “on-the-spot monitoring and assessment of developmental projects” in the Polytechnic.
It said its assessment of the institution revealed positive developments that it believes “will significantly enhance the teaching and learning process, and improve the welfare of students and staff”.
“Corruption has been pervasive within Nigeria’s administrative system for many years, underscoring the urgent need to tackle it comprehensively from top to bottom.
“We firmly believe that citizens have the right to know how their tax money is utilized and to hold government officials accountable for fulfilling their commitments. Recognizing the funds disbursed to Auchi Polytechnic, we conducted an independent assessment to evaluate the progress and impact of completed and ongoing projects within the institution,” Splendour Agbonkpolor, Chairman of CBIAMEC stated.
Agbonkpolor said the assessment covered: “Code of conduct; Staff Welfare and motivation; The quality of work done; Level of Accountability & Transparency; Professionalism; Level of Innovation; Level of Growth; Level of Infrastructure; Student welfare and Responsiveness to FOI”.
He said the institution under the leadership of Dr. Salisu Umar, has accomplished: “the Construction of a 1.1-kilometer road from campus 2–3 within the Auchi Polytechnic campus; Construction of Office Blocks and Classrooms; Construction of a 250-seat lecture theater for the School of Engineering; Renovation of the Auchi Polytechnic central library and ICT center; Attraction and securing the construction of a 250-capacity ICT center by Apostle Johnson Suleiman in support of his alma mater; Construction of a water factory and treatment unit and many more”, and many other projects.
In his own remarks, President of CBIAMEC, Dominic Ogakwu, noted that one of the reasons why the naira is struggling against foreign currencies, is because of the shortfall in local production. He thus called for standardizing of Polytechnics which are the “bedrock of practical knowledge”.
