Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has restated his confidence in the capacity of Professor Abdulkareem Abubakar Kana, to deliver in his present position as the National Legal Adviser for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Governor Sule, while hosting the APC legal team at the Government House on Wednesday, said he has no doubt that Professor Kana will leave the office as the best national legal adviser the parry ever produced.
Professor Kana was a two-term former attorney-general and commissioner of justice under the Governor Sule administration.
The Governor explained that it was not by accident that Professor Kana’s name was sent to the national secretariat of the party to occupy the position of a sensitive and vital office of the national legal adviser of the party.
“When sent you out of the conviction that indeed, if there is anyone from our own team here that can play that role, it’s you. We did not sent you because you are taller, because you are a professor. We sent you because we know you love the profession. You are very aggressive about the legal system. You love the law. You are committed. You are very energetic about it,” he stated.
Governor Sule pointed out that from his years of experience in the organized private sector, he has come to realize the significance of empoying persons who go about their job with conviction and who like their jobs.
“Because they are people who will do their job whether you are there or not. They will put in their best. They will come up with the best,” he added.
He expressed confidence that Professor Kana will leave the national secretariat as the best ever national legal adviser.
“I thank you for taking it. And it’s for the good of our own state because we could be given another position. But you are holding a key position. I am always proud when you are mentioned, and I say you are from Nasarawa State,” he said.
Earlier, in his opening remarks, the APC National Legal Adviser, Professor Abdulkareem Abubakar Kana, who was accompanied on the visit by members of the party’s in-house legal team, said he was at the Government House to congratulate Governor Sule on his recent victory at the supreme court.
Professor Kana said he was also in Lafia to appreciate the Governor over his appointment as the National Legal Adviser of the APC, Africa’s largest political party.
He assured that he would justify the trust vested in him by the Governor.
“I must thank Your Excellency for sending me to the national team. Because the APC secretariat is the national team. I really must appreciate you as the state Governor for taking that decision and all the support I have received ever since I arrived in Abuja and took over the legal department for the party,” he added.
Professor Kana equally used the opportunity of the visit to update Governor Sule on the activities of the legal department, which he said is currently supervising over 1500 cases across the country.
“The legal department is the repository of all the cases involving the APC. For every candidate that APC is sued, APC is sued along, and the process is served at the APC secretariat. Therefore, we supervise all the cases across the 36 states and Abuja and every constituency, every local government area where there is a case against the party. There are also sundry cases that come up from time to time. As we speak, we have almost 1500 cases. We get sued almost on a daily basis. This is one of the busiest departments in the secretariat,” he said.
